‘Good Evening Blossom’ went through many transitions before completion. The final painting represents a symbol of hope in an otherwise troubled world.
The composition of the work was initially inspired by a charcoal drawing of blossoming tree drawn one evening in the spring. At the time, my thoughts were preoccupied with the troubling global issues and the painting was responsive and started out quite dark and moody with a deep petrol backdrop consuming the work. The tree however always remained a positive feature of the painting, with it initially glowing yellow against the dark backdrop. The words ‘tree of life’ kept popping into my head as I painted.
I worked on the painting over several weeks, immersing myself in music and the process became about symbolically exorcising evil and negativity. I wanted to produce something positive to connect people by expressing our shared desires for peace, kindness and an appreciation of humanity and nature.
