‘Head in the Trees’ was primarily inspired by a blooming magnolia tree against the backdrop of the night sky. I had a clear vision in my head from the outset that I wanted to paint the backdrop in a deep ruby to symbolise life and vitality. I used a vibrant vermillion to emphasise the areas of light against the dark crimson to create the pits and troughs of light, using lightened viridian green and mauve tones to make the flowers pop against the background. The work was strongly influenced by music and I wanted to give a sense of nature dancing and create a piece that represented a feeling of pure connection with nature.
